The brainchild of long-time Westmount resident, Daphne Tsadilas-Shamie, L’Art Glacier will offer small batch, artisanal ice creams and sorbets at its Greene Avenue counter and by delivery.
“Our team combines extensive knowledge of the food services business and the art of ice cream making. We are incredibly lucky to have on board, Roland Del Monte, an award-winning pastry chef and ice cream maker who has decades of experience and a passion for excellence and quality,” said Ms. Tsadilas-Shamie. “We also have with us the team behind some of Montreal’s most successful restaurants, the Nacos Group, and the award-winning architectural firm, Philip Hazan Design.”
Originally from France, Chef Roland Del Monte moved to Montreal in 2009. He worked as pastry chef at Europea and Relais & Chateaux restaurants. Most recently he was the head pastry chef at the Sofitel’s Renoir restaurant. He is a recipient of the prestigious designation “Best Craftsman of France” (Meilleur Ouvrier de France M.O.F.) for his pastry and ice cream skills, the gold Medal of the “Ordre de l’Artisanat” (Craftsmanship Order) and was made a knight of the Order of Agricultural Merit by the French agricultural minister.
“I am delighting to be working with Daphne and the team to create spectacular ice creams and sorbets with only the best local, fresh ingredients,” said Chef Roland Del Monte. “My passion is finding the perfect pairing of flavours that will delight our customers.”
Ms. Tsadilas-Shamie is committed to injecting some much-needed job creation into Westmount. L’Art Glacier will employ students to staff the shop and to deliver ice cream.
